Sale wins Grand Final as Brown tops Road to Mallorca

Club de Golf Alcanada reinforced its role as a springboard to the DP World Tour on Sunday, as 15 players secured promotion at the Mallorca venue. Hosting the Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A for the sixth time, Alcanada provided the setting for the 2026 HotelPlanner Tour’s season finale while showcasing the island to an international television audience.

Since first hosting the final in 2019, Alcanada has become the setting for some of the most important rounds in the careers of the tour’s emerging players. Its Robert Trent Jones Jnr-designed course provided the final examination of a season spent pursuing promotion and turning dreams into reality.

This year, France’s Julien Sale claimed the title when the six-round examination was completed last weekend, finishing four shots clear of Denmark’s Hamish Brown, who topped the Road to Mallorca Rankings. Both will join the DP World Tour next season, with Sale following recent Alcanada champions James Morrison, Kristoffer Reitan and Marco Penge onto the Grand Final honours board.

Penge’s progress offers a measure of what can follow success at Alcanada. The 2023 champion went on to win three DP World Tour titles in 2025 and finish runner-up in the Race to Dubai.

Kristoff Both, director at Club de Golf Alcanada, said: “We have watched players leave Alcanada with their DP World Tour cards and then followed their progress as they win tournaments and establish themselves at the highest level. Seeing Marco Penge go from winning here to winning three times on the DP World Tour for example makes that connection particularly clear.

“For the players, this week represents the culmination of years of work. Our responsibility is to give them a course and tournament conditions worthy of that occasion. Everyone at the club takes considerable pride in being part of such an important moment in their careers.”

Played from October 29 to November 1, the tournament brought live coverage through broadcast partners including Sky Sports and the Golf Channel. Views across the Bay of Alcúdia and towards Alcanada’s lighthouse provided a distinctive backdrop as the players contested the final promotion places.

For Alcanada, the exposure is also an opportunity to introduce visiting golfers to the north of Mallorca. The course’s coastal setting and proximity to Alcúdia give those planning a golf break the chance to combine a round at the Grand Final venue with time exploring the town and surrounding coastline.

Both added: “The television coverage allows people to see the course throughout the week, from the opening tee shot to the final putt. We want that to encourage golfers to come here, play Alcanada and spend time discovering this part of Mallorca.

“There is also an opportunity to get younger people interested in the game. Watching players earn their place on the DP World Tour can make that ambition feel closer, particularly when it happens at a course on your own island. We want the Grand Final to help build that interest.”

Sale’s closing 65 secured a winning total of 22 under par and second place in the season rankings. He and Brown led the 15 graduates whose next chapter will begin on the DP World Tour, with Alcanada once again the venue where promotion was confirmed.
