WHO IS TWEETING? – THE BIRD OF THE MONTH: CATTLE EGRET

The Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) is a small heron, all white except during the breeding season, when presented orange feathers on head, chest and back.

Present throughout the year in Mallorca, it is the most abundant heron, as it has experienced a dramatic increase in recent years. Nests in wetlands and feeds into open land, mainly on large insects caught on the ground. When is in wetlands, looks for frogs and small fish.

The cattle egret is detected on a couple of occasions, just finished the breeding season; they were always birds that were lounging or walking slowly on the grass of the course.
