Alcanada has claimed success in the prestigious 59club golf service awards – for the second successive year.

The north Mallorcan club’s Silver Flag in the Overall Golf Resort category follows on from its success last year, in recognition of a good business in terms of sales, operations and management, as well as being acknowledged as one of the finest membership clubs and commercial venues.

The awards, which are regarded by many as the Oscars of the golf service industry, were held at the Belfry on February 27, 2017, and hosted by BBC Breakfast News and Football Focus presenter Dan Walker.

Kristoff Both, director of golf at Alcanada, who picked up the award, said: “It is the third Silver flag we have won and second year in a row. It shows we are doing lots of things right. It is a great honour.

“You don’t spend money to win awards but it shows we are going in the right direction. Every year we are receiving some type of award which is nice. In service and quality we are succeeding and that is good for the financial security of the company.

“There are some areas we need to work on and that’s what we will do as we are always looking to improve, so hopefully next year we will win the Gold Flag award – that has to be the aim and with the team we have here we can certainly do that.”

Alcanada was one of six Silver Flag winners at the seventh annual awards and Simon Wordsworth, chief executive at 59club and a fellow of the PGA, said: “Our congratulations go out to Kristoff Both and the team at Alcanada.

“It is an award that they have claimed for the second consecutive year. Silver status is awarded to the clubs who meet the required standard when it comes to delivering a great customer service experience whilst providing great quality facilities for golfers to enjoy – and Alcanada does just that.”

The 59club awards’ evening has become the industry standard for measuring and comparing customer-service levels, analysing all key revenue streams for golf & leisure venues, and is committed to the on-going development of club managers and PGA professionals.

The awards are designed to honour the highest-achieving golf venues across all business elements – sales, service, operations, retail and management.

Sitting in a breathtaking location overlooking the Bay of Alcudia and adjacent to the Mediterranean, Alcanada is the only course on the island next to the sea. Opened in October 2003, the layout blends naturally into the Mallorcan terrain and takes its name from an island with a lighthouse, situated just offshore, which can be seen from most of the holes.

Magnificent mountain and sea views and a mixture of pine and olive groves provide the splendid setting for a round at Alcanada and the course is recognised by the golf industry as one of the finest venues in Spain and Europe and is a member of the prestigious World of Leading Golf collection.

In addition, the club boasts a centuries-old Mallorca clubhouse which offers guests the opportunity to sample regional specialties in its first-class dining facilities on a sunbaked terrace.
