Club de Golf Alcanada is looking picture perfect this winter thanks to a new painting of the Majorcan course created FROM SAND from one of its bunkers

Club officials at Alcanada jumped at the chance when German artist Dominik Wein approached them to produce a unique view of the acclaimed layout’s 13th hole using his unique artistic style ‘Action Sand Painting’.

After playing the par-five hole from tee to green, the Spanish and German-based painter turned his attention to creating his latest unconventional work of art, using his lob wedge to splash sand from a greenside bunker onto a blank canvas positioned on the green.

With phase one of the painting complete, Wein returned to his studio to carry out the final two parts of his design, first flicking paint onto the canvas by swinging his club before putting the finishing touches to his picture using the more traditional method of a paintbrush.

The finished painting, entitled ’13 The View’ and featuring Alcanada’s iconic lighthouse as a backdrop, is now on full display in the clubhouse, and you even have the chance to purchase the unique piece of art for themselves with the painting up for sale (price on request) – with some of the money being donated to charity.

Kristoff Both, director of golf at Club de Golf Alcanada, said: “When Dominik came to us with the idea, it was too good an opportunity to miss.

“Dominik’s style of painting is fun, unique and full of flair and we’re delighted with the finished article. The picture has created quite a talking point among our members and I’m sure it will continue to be the topic of much discussion for everyone that sees it.”

Alcanada is widely regarded as one of the best courses in Spain with spectacular panoramic sea views over the Alcudia Bay towards its iconic picturesque lighthouse. Measuring 6,499 metres and boasting 18 beautiful, yet challenging, holes, the Robert Trent Jones Jnr-designed layout is a must for any golfer – especially with the enhanced course conditions.

Surrounded by pine and olive groves throughout, the course often appears in Europe’s top 100 rankings and is a great test for golfers of all abilities, from beginners to professionals. This was shown when it was selected as the host venue for the European Challenge Tour Grand Final in November 2019.
