With the help of Daniel Beltrán, gardener of Club de Golf Alcanada, we are going to show you the diversity of plants that can be seen in the club.
For this first article we have chosen the laurel or "Laurus nobilis", an aromatic evergreen tree or large shrub with green, glabrous (smooth and hairless) leaves, in the flowering plant family Lauraceae.
The laurel is native to the Mediterranean area, where it grows wild, and it has a multitude of medicinal and culinary properties.
These wonderful specimens preside over the way up to the restaurant, being a visual experience, and giving a touch of elegance and distinction to the staircase.
In classical culture (Greece and Rome) braided laurel wreaths were a symbol of victory and glory and were used to reward the merits of war, sport, etc. They are currently used to make crowns for the dead.
The laurel wood is very hard and is used in Andalusia for marquetry and inlay work.
